Nigerian Government Website UI Re-Design

, ,

The re-designing of the website UI had me changing the direction totally as the current design looks clumsy with a lot going on and so much unneeded information that would cause a bad first experience.

The aim was to take a minimalistic approach in other to create an impressive first time experience as well as a clean interface that would pass across the relevant information need at the first approach at the website.
For more detailed but summarised expansion, I divided the home page into three sections; Home Page, Latest News section and E-Governance section/footer.

The landing page is the first page that users make first content with when visiting the website for the first time so as clean as it must be, it must also be visually appealing and have enough enticing details to make the first time user want to explore other areas of the website.
For the navigation bar, I had to strip down the options down to the most important ones and grouping the others under the necessary categories.
The Imagery that should welcome users to the page should be one that would present the country as a pride and interest both to residents and visitors respectively, hence the use of the national theatre one of the landmarks of the country.

Since the direction was aimed at been minimalistic, I also had to strip down the news section to the more exciting news and create a link that could be used to view more if interested. Imagery and layout is also important as it has to be in sync with the whole home page and the imagery has to be engaging and make the user want to explore more.

The e-governance section had important details that could ease the stress of a user in navigating the website. So I decided to revamp it to sync with the direction of the whole website and also to look more attractive and modern. I has to curate and develop some icons where necessary to fit with each of the segments under this section.
The section after sees a brief bio of the president with two link buttons which consists of the “president’s priorities and programmes and initiatives” . This is aimed at reducing the overwhelming information in this section which leads  down to the footer of the page.
